Does your Class Allow You to Go the Extra Mile?

by | Sep 22, 2022

You might be surprised to know I have a Ferrari in my lounge…

Every morning my Ferrari reminds me of when I stood on the track at Monza, the home of Ferrari in Milan. I reflected on how I could hit the metrics of performance like a Ferrari driver. When you think of Ferrari, does performance and being a world-class a leader spring to your mind? Imagine having that great positioning.

What can Ferrari teach us about performance and how can you apply the principles to be first class?

You see winning beyond the arena you need to be an expert in your industry be positioned as the go to person, having that competitive edge in everything you do to become that corporate ambassador.

Here at performance by design, I have a unique way of looking at performance; you might be curious to know what inspires me daily. As soon as my feet hit the ground in the morning, I am in front of my Ferrari. Every day, I visualise and attach P of my performance to my Ferrari – is that normal? I believe it’s unique and gives me that mental preparedness to lead the field. What if everyone had a visual Ferrari in their lounge right now? Just how do we go from the pit lane to the fast track in our business?

So why are we challenged with performance excellence? The world has changed and so must you. We are in a very different world today than we were a decade ago. This is the beginning of a new chapter in business performance, your best thinking of five years ago is baggage today. Have you noticed explosive growth of social media, online shopping, a massive breakthrough in technology, a global recession and a massive shift in consumer behaviour? Right now, you cannot rely on old methods of performance.

The old career escalator is jammed, businesses are now facing a new world of reality which no one saw coming. The office has felt in all markets bringing total disaster and interruption to family life, insolvency, business collapse and causing great unemployment. How can you sharpen your entrepreneurial skills, kick start a new career, have a new way of thinking to be positioned as a Corporate Athlete?

What is your performance right now, how do you work to stay ahead of the competition?

Ask The Expert:  This week’s question on using your phone to record videos

Build your Visibility

Many of the conversations recently have been around the challenges of getting started with videos. So, today I thought it would be helpful to share and answer many of the questions in this newsletter. I can remember even with training, the hesitance I had initially using my iPhone.

Always make sure your video camera or recording device is slightly above you so you are looking down on the person viewing your video. This also gives you a sleek jaw line.

If you are recording your video using a smart phone, make sure you go into your settings and turn on airplane mode so your video does not cut off halfway through if someone calls you. It can be very annoying if this happens.

Position your camera so that your head and shoulders are in the shot and you have something interesting in the background.

Talk to the camera as if you are having a conversation with one person. This makes the video very personal.
